Marina Fitness 83-year-old member story

If you walk into Marina Fitness and see Ron Jones striding along on the treadmill you’d be excused for thinking he’s a fit looking chap without a care in the world. You certainly wouldn’t realise that this is an 83-year-old recovering from a recent broken back and walking on two replaced hips!

Ron has been coming to Marina Fitness, a new gym operated by Manukau Leisure, for eight weeks now. He’s half way through the initial phase of the rehabilitation programme prescribed by physiotherapist Oliver Low for his broken back.

Llyod Elsmore pools closing for routine maintenance

Please note that the swimming pools at Llyod Elsmore Park will be shut for annual maintenance from Monday 19 July, re-opening Monday 2 August. The Community Gym is not effected and will remain open. Swimmers are encouraged to visit an alternative Manukau Leisure pool during the two week closure - try Manurewa Aquatic Centre, Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa (Mangere) or Papatoetoe Centennial Pools

Award recognises passion for quality childcare

Annette Reilly, National OSCAR Foundation Individual Award winner, with some kids in her after school care group at the Allan Brewster Recreation Centre

A prestigious national childcare award presented to Manukau Leisure’s Annette Reilly on 22 May 2010 was recognition of her passion for childcare and contribution to outstanding after-school services, Brett Jude, Manukau Leisure’s CEO says.

Winner of the elite Individual Award presented at the OSCAR (Out Of School Care And Recreation) Foundation awards dinner at the Wellington Town Hall, Annette, who is Centre Manager at the Allan Brewster Recreation Centre, was praised for making a real difference to hundreds of Manukau children through fun programmes that were also valuable learning opportunities.

Manurewa Aquatic Centre awarded Halberg SportAccess GOLD

Manurewa Aquatic Centre wins Halberg SportAcess Award

Manurewa Aquatic Centre, Ngaa mahi a Rehia, is the first public facility in Manukau to be awarded with a Halberg Trust SportAccess Gold Award – and they earned the highest score given to date!

Sir Murray Halberg presented the gold plaque to Craig Rouse, the Centre Manager, on Thursday 20 May 2010 in a ceremony held at the facility. The Award is recognition of the facility’s encouragement and enabling of people with disabilities to participate in sport and active leisure.
